1. Pump won't turn on. Check the breaker/GFCI first — a tripped breaker is the single most common no-power cause. If power is confirmed at the pump and it still won't start, the capacitor or motor may have failed.
2. Loud or grinding noise. Usually a failing motor bearing. Running it longer risks a full motor seizure — worth having a pro look at it soon rather than waiting.
3. Not pulling water / won't prime. Check for a low water level, a clogged skimmer basket, or air leaking in at the pump lid o-ring or a suction-side fitting. If the basket and water level are fine, it's likely an air leak that needs a pro to pressure-test.
4. Leaking. Note exactly where — shaft seal leaks (under the motor) and o-ring/gasket leaks are usually straightforward repairs; a crack in the pump housing usually means replacement.
